The Festival

WOW-Images-7-250The Buskers Festival was first conceived by event staff, at what was then, Cairns City Council in 2006. It was then initiated by Cairns Regional Council in 2008 giving it the green light and the green paper (funding).

With humble beginnings as a concept to liven up the streets of Cairns, the Buskers Festival was designed to put world class buskers on our streets and to create a platform to showcase and promote the exceptionally talented local performers we have in Cairns and the far north.

This festival is fast becoming the largest street theatre and comedy festival in Queensland, and in the top 3 in Australia.

Now in its fourth year, we are going from strength to strength.  It seems that no matter how hard times get, people still want to laugh and enjoy themselves, so we aim to deliver a festival that does just that.

In 2011 there will be oodles of street theatre around the CBD, but for your added pleasure and entertainment you may want to indulge your senses further...

  • Scheduled street performances at various locations along the Esplanade and City Place in Cairns
  • The all-you-can-laugh smorgasbord of the festival, the One Night Stand opening night gala. 18+ only, hosted this year by the Sit Down Comedy Club at Blue Sky Brewery
  • Family entertainment in air conditioned comfort at Stockland Cairns each day
  • Two late night Buskers Burlesque comedy/cabaret shows at Shenannigans.18+ only
  • Exquisite 3D pavement art all over the CBD by international artist Ulla Taylor
  • Workshops in Physical Comedy by Darian Le Page and pavement art classes with Ulla Taylor
